Magnesium Stearate Explained

One concerned customer asked us recently about the use of magnesium stearate in Theralac. The concern was that magnesium stearate can build up on the surface of the intestines because it is not digested or eliminated. "The Magnesium Stearate in Theralac is food-grade, vegetable-source, magnesium stearate. It is present at 9 milligrams per capsule. This very small amount is what allows powders like probiotics to be filled into capsules without cracking or denting.

This type of magnesium stearate is nontoxic and has been used in high quality supplements and pharmaceutical drugs for over 75 years.

It is true that some individuals with exceptionally slow intestinal motility (often chronically constipated individuals) may have trouble clearing "stearate" from the surfaces of their colon. In these cases a good colon cleanse program that uses a high lipase containing enzyme supplement be used 2-3 times per year.

In the six years that Theralac has been sold, it has helped tens of thousands of people and we have not had one adverse reaction attributed to the vegetable source magnesium stearate in the product.
