Heat, Shipping, and Probiotics
Here at Master Supplements, Inc. we are frequently asked by our customers if we ship our products packed in ice. The answer is simply "it's not necessary".
Because of the advanced manufacturing processes and packaging we use, our products are stable for several weeks without refrigeration. They are also stable to relatively high temperatures. (Over 110 Fahrenheit) Long term ALL probiotics should be refrigerated, but for a short trip to you from us, there is no concern. We have tested our products after they have been exposed to high temperatures for prolonged periods of time and found that the guaranteed 20 Billion CFU was still met!
Since our packaging is "Totally Inert" due to a number of technologies we employ, we minimize the adverse effects from short term heat exposure.
Freezing Probiotics:
Not all probiotics are created equal, so freezing is NOT always a good idea. Some companies who ship their products on dry ice may be causing damage to them by doing so. Unless the moisture content is very low and the product packaged in such a way as to avoid moisture from getting in, freezing can damage probiotics.
Freezing causes ice crystals to form and ice crystals can damage cells such as those in probiotics. When we make and package our products such as Theralac and TruFlora, strict controls and standards assure a 2-4% moisture content or less. Which means we can ship our products on ice, but again because of our tightly controlled manufacturing and packaging processes we don't need to. Why should you pay extra to ship ice packs you don't need? PLUS if ice packs do melt, they get hot and stay hot - and that's no good either!
